THE TIME MACHINE

This costume is for the Eloi characters in the Time Machine.

The eloi live above ground in an idyllic rainforest like environment. Their skin has adapted with the world around them. They are peaceful, beautiful and regal.

We focused on ancient cultures like the Egyptians for inspiration as this links with the 1960 Film.  As Well as the Gold and the semi circle patterns , the draping is a key part of my research into the ancient world - in particular Egyptian and Greek. I wanted to distort the body and created a gender fluid creature in the Eloi. So the future definition of Agender here is inspired by the jagged and strange curves of the future, creating a shape of the body that distorts the normal body shape using straight lines  - but that isn’t de-fined by removing the feminine to make it agender.

I used Cork material for the top section as they would live in an environment without animals so that would be how they create leather. Then I repurposed curtains for the bottom and natural dyed them and hammered flowers on it.
