THE WILD SWANS

This project tells the story of Elise from the Novel the Wild Swans. It shows how she perseveres through the pain of knitting jumpers out of nettles to save her brothers from being cursed as swans.

The theme of perseverance and resilience flows through the real-life story of the women behind the Pre-Raphaelite movement. So, for this project I combined their story and aesthetics with the story of the Wild Swans.

This final project had to represent me so of the two costumes one is white and sustainably sourced from charity shops, upholstery and Fabric shop offcuts as well as second hand online shops.

The second is completely naturally dyed green with nettles and spirulina powder as well as nettles being hammered into the fabric. So, I was able to get the contrast in the transformation between costumes of the white and green and still represent the different ways to make sustainably.
