The Wild Swans

In my final year project at UAL the story was that of the Wild Swans. In the Wild swans the character of Elise knits jumpers out of nettles which turn her brothers back human (as they were cursed to be swans).

So for the costumes I wanted the underneath costume to represent the freedom and perseverance of her character and part of the way I did that was incorperating the knitting into the costume.

I experimented with normal knitting but it ended up looking too crude and not aesthetically pleasing. So I decided to incorperate macrame and finger knitting instead.

Finger Knitting

Finger knitting is super easy.

It is the same concept of knitting so you pull the under layer over and off and then repeat. You can see the two steps in the diagram I created to the right.

Below I have uploaded timelapses of some of the finger knitted pieces.

Macrame

For the macrame in this project I just did different variations of the Hitch Knot and the Twisted Knot. I incorperated beading and different spaces to create a different effect in each strip.

To the right you can see my diagram of the one step for each that you just keep repeating. Then below you can see how changing the length, amount ect makes different styles and shapes.
